In a series of drawings from 2013 David Tartakover keeps weaving the image of the Sabra. This time, with a free hand, naughty, sensitive and compassionate he tapers and distills its form thus depriving it of its features: its pricky roughness and sweet nectar.

Tartakover’s cacti lack earth or container, dance at the center of the paper in an evolutionary pallet of shape and color. From fleshy, sparking in potent, dominant colors to lean and monochromatic, pale exhausted.

An authority in the Eretz-Israeli myth he expands the borders-of-reference to the Sabre as symbol and casts new challenging meaning into its significance. On one hand he doesn’t diminish its specific value and its capacities, yet is aware of its vulnerabilities and rootlessness with great humility.
